What is a DDoS Attack?
A DDoS Attack, or Distributed Denial of Service Attack, is a malicious attempt to interrupt the availability of a server or website, thereby denying users access to the service. These attacks are generally perpetrated using dozens or even hundreds of systems toover-load the network or computing resources available to the target. There are many different types of DDoS attacks, including:
- Common layer 4 attacks, such as SYN floods;
- Volumetric UDP attacks, such as DNS and NTP reflection attacks;
- Application layer attacks, such as HTTP GET attacks;
